Perun Sleeps
Perun sleeps. Paula was holding him so I fired off a few shots with both the digi and a film camera. The digi pic can be posted almost immediately. The film is still waiting to be developed.

Dreaming Dreams…
This is one of my last shots of mom and baby Perun still in the hospital. He is just about ready to come home. I composed the shot to tell a story. Mom is dreaming of Perun, he is looking to her. The lighting was pretty tricky and I guess I didn’t completely master it. There is sunlight, fluorescent light, and perhaps the tiniest touch of fill flash. All in all, I am happy with the shot. This point and shoot digital camera I normally use would not have allowed me to shoot such a shallow depth of field. I shot this on (gasp!) film using my Contax G2. Except that it uses film, which now is such a nuisance, I still love that camera.

What’s in a name?
It seems that Perun is not a name familiar to American ears.
In Slavic mythology, Perun (with many spelling and pronunciation variants among modern Slavic languages) is the highest god of the pantheon and the god of thunder and lightning. His other attributes were the mountain, oak, eagle, firmament (in Indo-European languages this was joined with the notion of the sky of stone), horses and carts, weapons (the hammer, axe and arrow), war, and fire. He was first associated with weapons made of stone and later with those of metal.
